Our Design Process

Prior to beginning the design of the homes, designer Don Mackprang walks the homesite with the clients to determine the optimal placement of the home as well as room orientation. If the site is sloping, then a topography will be needed. It may also be necessary to locate existing trees, rock outcroppings, view corridors and corner stakes. Mackprang Design works with surveyors to obtain this information.
Mackprang Design's plans include site plan, floor plans, foundation, framing, construction details, cabinet and fireplace elevations, and electrical and mechanical details. An exterior pen and ink rendering and a book of specifications is supplied.
Designer Don Mackprang will sit down with the clients and go over, on a room-by-room basis, every aspect of what should be included in the design concept. This would include the general design concept suitable for the property and everything relevant to the layout of the plan.
Mackprang Design will assist the client in the bidding process by providing copies of plans and specifications to the contractors. Additionally, they will help the contractors in evaluating the plans and also help the clients in evaluating the bids.
Designer Don Mackprang or his assistant will make periodic visits to the construction site to ascertain whether the home is being fully constructed to their plans and specifications. Mackprang Design will also be available to meet with the contractor or clients on the site during the course of construction.
